I’ve been training like never before for this bike race in 10 weeks. It has changed my life. My life has never before been so structured, organized and full on. I’m absolutely loving it. The meal planning, interval training, lactate threshold testing, gym workouts, massage visits, social rides, early nights, earlier mornings, butt kicking rides, local races… you name it, I’m loving it. I’m also loving the fact that I’m getting pretty good at balancing it all, which is an art in itself. That’s what this past weekend was about – century rides and winery tours. The best of both worlds.
If ever you are in Vancouver, I recommend taking a 5 hour drive to our very own Italy. Our wine county – the Okanagan. Oliver, after all, is named the ‘wine capital of Canada’. We rode for 3 days around Penticton, including the areas of Naramata, Summerland, Okanagan Falls, Oliver and Osoyoos. Miles and miles of rolling hills, stunning vineyards, calm lakes, and warm sun. No need to fly to Hawaii when we have so much beautiful terrain close to home.
I like to live by the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time I’m strict with my diet, exercise and lifestyle. 20% of the time, I like to pack a bottle or two of wine in my bottle cages after tasting at the wineries, as well as enjoying a burger, beer and gelato to top it all off. Without a balance, we wouldn’t remain steady – we’d topple over in either direction. Work hard, yes, but make sure to enjoy the rewards every once and a while!
And of course, Smile with your heart
(thanks lululemon for the riding kits – most comfortable chamois I’ve ever worn!)
